GE: What did your father do as a farmer?
LP: What did he do?
GE: What did he raise, as crops?
LP: Oh, he raised oats. Potatoes, mostly. Nice potato farm.
GE: Behind the house? I know where the property is, I've seen it.
LP: He used to raise it down below, and that's all grown up to trees down there [laughing]. Beautiful place, over in the back lot. Used to raise…
GE: You ever raise hops?
LP: Oh, mercy. I guess so, till the blue mold struck ‘em. That's the reason why hops went out. The blue mold eat ‘em all up. Used to have beautiful hops.
GE: It didn't wipe him out, though. I mean, he could raise other crops? It didn't ruin him financially?
LP: Oh, no. It didn't hurt. He [went?] in potatoes, raising potatoes. Got good money from raising potatoes, I remember, at that time. ‘Course, not what the price of them are now, but. Things was different, way back. Things have gone up out of sight, now.
